After Riots, France Bans July 14 Fireworks Sales

Revolutionary France is taking a step towards addressing the current unrest by banning the sale, possession and transport of fireworks for their upcoming national holiday weekend, due to the conflicts sparked by a police officer who killed a teenager after a traffic stop.

The recent incidents have bought systemic racism among the French security forces to the front of society, and the government has put in place the necessary precautions to prevent further clashes across demonstrations by prohibiting the sale, containment, transportation and use of fireworks up until July 15.

Theoretically, this ban does not affect professionals or municipalities who have organised traditional fireworks for the celebration, as previously warned by Prime Minister Elisabeth Borne.

Diversions of civil unrest have included the use of fireworks so far, which sparked the government into action. Since June 27, more than 3,700 individuals have been apprehended by the police, including at least 1,160 minors.
