The U.S. Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) recently announced the dates and locations for three debates among the projected presidential contenders in 2024 U.S. elections. The first forum is scheduled for Sept. 16 at Texas State University in San Marcos, followed by the second debate Oct. 1 at Virginia State University in Petersburg, and the final face-off on Oct. 9 to be held at The University of Utah in Salt Lake City. The debat for the vice-presidential candidates is slated for Sept. 25 at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, commencing at 9 p.m. ET with a 90 minute time slot. Developments on the format and moderators will ensue next year, while the actual number of participants will depend on each contenders ability to clear the threshold of 15% voter support in five national polls established by the CPD. Although anticipated to be a rematch between President Joe Biden and Former President Donald Trump, the official contenders will only be known on Nov. 5, the day of the elections. The debates form a core fixture in the U.S. electoral participation, providing the electorate with a rare opportunity to resemble leading candidates as they address substantial issues on a level platform followed by millions worldwide, according to statement by the commission’s Co-Chairs Frank Fahrenkopf and Antonio Hernandez.
