Endangered giant Galapagos tortoises suffer from ingestion of human debris from urban centers, in spite of efforts to waved plastic bans. As per the research conducted by Charles Darwin foundation, 597 pieces of human debris out of 5500 samples were found in the fecal matter of these tortoises. This points to the ill effects plastic and other wastes have on their well-being, including hormonal changes and intestinal obstruction.
To ensure Tortoises of the species Chelonoidis porteri is conserved, the Galapagos National Park initiativesn remains essential. 15 different species of these Tortoises have been identified, and ofthose 3 speciesare now declared extinct.
