Energy-short South Africa Will Survive Winter: Minister

South Africa, which has suffered from frequent electricity outages, will “survive” its winter season, an upcoming cabinet minister said on Saturday, crediting an improved generation that has ramped up the output from 48 percent to a steady 60 percent. State utility Eskom had implemented daily scheduled blackouts across the country to keep the grid safe when demand exceeded supply. This too has decreased from 12 to 2 hours a day.
