In 2023, Kazakhstan’s financial regulator blocked access to 980 illegal cryptocurrency trading platforms as a massive crackdown under recent legislations. This resulted from an investigation directed byRuslan Ostroumov, chairman of the Financial Monitoring Agency (FMA), where a number of exchanges failed to fulfil regulatoryties set by the nation’s Digital Asset Law. 9 money laundering cases emerged this year, amounting to nearly $36.7 million worth of suspected funds.
