Keith Richards is currently on the cover of Guitar Player magazine,
promoting the new album of The Rolling Stones titled Hackney
Diamonds
. In the cover story, the legendary guitarist talked about his band’s new material, missing late member Charlie Watts, and the decades-long relationship between The Rolling Stones and The Beatles.

Pointing out amidst their differences, there was a strong bond between the two bands. Richards portrays this connection in the article, “The Beatles and the Stones have been basically joined together at the hips from the beginning. We were totally different bands, but we knew each other well.” Additionally, many successful collaborations from both groups ensued since their first meeting dating back more than 50 years.

Today this connection remains, as Paul McCartney appears as the bassist for the track “Bite My Head Off” featured on Hackney Diamonds. Moreover, close ties exist between representatives of each band.

According to Richards, “ Ronne Wood and I used to hang with George Harrison quite a bit in the 1970s, so there’s always been an open door between the Beatles and the Stones.” He attributes its ongoing success to “the only ones that knew what it’s like to have that extreme kind of fame in the 1960s, so that created a bond.”
