Months in the making, Tesla has finally instigated a recall for 1.6 million electric vehicles in China, triggered by identified problems with certain assisted driving functions and door-locking systems, according to the consultation issued by China’s market regulator — the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). Tesla customers with model series manufactured between August 26th, 2014, and December 20th, 2023 will need to attend to the reception of OTA (over-the-air) software updates.
Of predominant importance to Tesla’s assembly, financial prospects, and dominance within the EV industry, the Chinese market remains a pivotal area where international sales amassed almost $3.5 billion in 2020 alone, according to 2019 Performance Summary. As a key component within Tesla’s global landscape, a Shanghai based plant housing approximately 3,000 staff processes 3,000–4,000 cars a week.
