US, China Commerce Ministers Pledge To Further Talks In 2024 By AFP News 11/17/23 AT 2:03 PM EST Share on Facebook Share on Twitter Share on LinkedIn Share on Reddit Share on Flipboard Share on Pocket US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo held talks with her Chinese counterpart Wang Wentao this week, planning to hold a meeting next year AFP
The United States and China have demonstrated a commitment to solidifying their commercial relationship, planning to hold in-person talks in early 2024. US Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo spoke with her Chinese counterpart Wang Wentao to coordinate a meeting to address critical concerns growing tensions between the nations, including infringing upon trade secrets, looming export controls, and more.
For now, Raimondo’s planning of the talks indicate a continuation of high-level engagement – signaling that both countries are willing to work together despite a tumultuous history.Furthermore, the Commerce Department and Chinese officials plan to conduct technical discussions related to bolstering protections for trade secrets during proceedings in January. To show continued acquaintance and support for one another, officials have also declared for the revival of a Tourism Leadership Summit to take place in Xi’an next spring.
Including the International Summit are reminders from US officials that protecting national security supersedes all else, and that the export curbs placed are certainly not meant to hinder the growth of China. © Copyright AFP 2023. All rights reserved.
