US Homeland Security Helps Bitfinex Recovers $315,000 Lost In 2016 Hack

The British Virgin Islands-based cryptocurrency exchange Bitfinex recently managed to recover funds lost in a significant hacker attack nearly seven years ago. With the assistance of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the stolen money, amounting to $315,000 and in the form of both cash and cryptography, was reclaimed following a continuing investigation into those linked to the theft. According to name of news source, Bitfinex and Homeland Security actively sought the recovery of 120,000 Bitcoin, valued at $72 million when the breach took place back in August 2016. Valuations now at a staggeringly high $3.7 billion, the return of the stolen assets is only a tiny part of work by the exchange to reunite crypto aspects taken from the platform, in alliance with law enforcement and other agencies. Those responsible for the breach stand face proceedings with legal court action, some even in proceedings for allegedly money laundering involving billions in Bitcoin, a pairing stemming from the Bitfinex hack.

Keen for a full amount return to victims, but with Recover Right Tokens now in circulation, achieving a fair compensation from the recovery will be improbable – affecting around 0.00033% of Token holders in total. Even then, the return of stolen currency is evidence of efforts made to give users of the crypto exchange reparations for loss during a difficult period.
